American Horror Story: Coven | review

Hi Pixies! In keeping with the theme of Halloween and all things October I thought that it would be a good idea to put together another television review for you all. In case you weren't aware American Horror Story has returned to our screens over in America, and being the incredibly inpatient person that I am (also add the fact that we don't have any of the fancy digital channels) I went ahead and started to watch it online.

Each series of American Horror Story is it's own self contained storyline which means that it's not essential to watch what has come before, although the show does keep the same actors series to series so if you're anything like me you may find it a bit difficult to seem them as a new character when a new series starts but on the other hand, that's what makes the cast so talented, that they can completely reinvent themselves and take on a whole new character with each new season (Although Evan Peters will always be Tate Langdon to me).

This series of AHS is about witches, witch hunts, incest, minorities, slavery, mothers and daughters, and witchcraft versus voodoo, powerful women and some vengeance thrown in for good measure. In short it's jammed packed full of lots of things that when put together make an amazing storyline. In a way it reminds me of 'The Crucible' a play written by Arthur Miller which tells the story of a group of  girls who get obsessed with the idea of Which craft and ultimately leads to the famous  Salem Which Trials. In the first episode we are introduced to Zoe Benson (played by the talented Tassia Farmiga), a teenage girl who leans that she is a Which after a pretty nasty experience with her boyfriend. She is sent off by her Mother to attend Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies in New Orleans where she will learn to use and control her powers. Along the way we are introduced to the rest of the young witches - Madison Montgomery (played by Emma Roberts) an out of control party girl and actress who has the power of telekinesis, Nan (played by talented series regular Jamie Brewer) a bubbly and friendly girl who can read peoples' minds and Queenie (played by Gabourey Sidibe) a self-confessed 'tough girl' who is a human voodoo doll. All of the girls are full of talent and shine on screen but I think that one of this series biggest draws will be the appearance of legendary actress Kathy Bates as Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie an immortal serial killer.

To sum it all up I'm really looking forward to this series and I can't wait to see how the story progresses over the coming weeks (as I type this episode 3 is due to air later on this evening in America) and even if you aren't a fan of the current trend for horror based television shows I would still recommend that you give this a try as it's full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Have you watched any American Horror Story: Coven yet. If so let me know what you think of the show and what you think will happen in the coming weeks in the comments below.

    1. I know! Even though I enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 I'm finding that season 3 just pulls you right into the heart of the story right off the bat and it also seems (to me at least) that this is the most well written series (if that makes sense!)
